Ossessione

Ossessione, Luchino Visconti’s directorial debut, was filmed in Fascist Italy during WW2. The film was immediately banned and all the copies destroyed, the film being described as scandalous and immoral. Visconti managed to save one print and when the film was released after the war most critics called it the front runner of the neo-realist movement in Italian cinema. Sex, lust, greed and poverty had rarely if ever been seen in this form in Italian cinema.
