Photography Exhibition - Transient Moments

The photographer John McKenna will be exhibiting a collection of black-and-white photographs in the Little Theatre during the Japanese Film weekend festival. The exhibition, entitled Transient Moments, captures images of impermanence in modern Japan.

John is a landscape, travel and fine art photographer from Glasgow, UK. His work has been exhibited in various locations around the UK and been published online and in print.

John first visited Japan in September 2011 and was immediately struck by the Japanese culture; in particular the Japanese attitude to seasonal changes - a subject which had always been a prominent feature in his landscape work back home in Scotland. Since then he has been fortunate to return another six times, capturing all four seasons and other, more fleeting, seasonal events such as the cherry blossom viewing festivals, setsubun mantoro, firefly viewings, and many more.

Directly influenced by Zen Buddhism, Transient Moments is a collection of photographs which seek to capture images of impermanence in modern Japan.
Presented entirely in black & white, it was John's first solo exhibition; it was visited by the Japanese Vice Consul for Culture while on show in Glasgow in 2017 and again by both the Vice Consul and the Japanese Consul for Culture in Aberdeen later that same year.

As with all long term projects, the collection is an ongoing work-in-progress and new photographs are being added on every trip.
