MANCHESTER FILM WEEKENDER 2020
The theme for the 2020 Film Weekender was Japanese cinema.
It was led by our guest speaker Jonathan Bunt, who teaches Asian Studies at the University of Manchester and is a great fan of Japanese cinema.

Friday 31st January
Residents book into the Mercure Hotel for dinner at 7.00pm
8.30pm meet in the conference room where Jonathan Bunt, senior lecturer in Asian Studies at the University of Manchester will introduce the film programme for the weekend. He will then introduce the first film of the weekend, A Story from Chickamatsu (1954) a film by Kenji Mizoguchi.
Saturday 1st February
9.30am film programme starts with The Ballad of Narayama, a film by Keisuke Kinoshita (1958, 98 minutes)
11.00am After Life, a film by Hirokazu Koreeda (1988, 118 minutes)
1.30pm to 2.15pm Lunch at the theatre
2.30pm Double Suicide, a film by Mashiro Shinoda (1969, 103 minutes)
